Technical Details

Heylo. You've heard the old adage: write what you know. But let's face it: writing's way too exciting to be confined to what you already know. Research is the way to go, and this wiki will help you through a few details to get started on a topic. In some cases, you may find sufficient knowledge here to write your story.
Anybody may write articles for this wiki. There's no need to ask. Just look at the Guidelines first.

2006-01-06 [Mister Saint]: If I get time, I'll try to do some articles for ya. Also, do you care if I put this wiki in the linklist at Flipside?

2006-01-11 [Kiddalee]: Of course I don't mind it getting advertised. :) Thanks. Do you think there is a demand for this type of thing in Writersco?

2006-01-16 [Mister Saint]: *sniff* People didn't like this post so [Mister Saint] changed it! :P

2006-01-16 [Mister Saint]: And gourd, my grammar is horrible tonight. O.o

2006-01-16 [Kuzco]: It's all a great idea! Knowing things throughtfully makes writting easier and much more interesting. way to go!

2006-01-16 [iippo]: I'm interested. Just need to think of something I know of.

2006-01-16 [Mister Saint]: I should contact Nunt from Elftown. If anyone knows Dragons, its her. Hmm... I could probably do an article on weaponry, lord knows I've researched it enough.

2006-01-17 [Kiddalee]: Wow. Enthusiastic people. This is cool.

2006-01-17 [Askoga]: I can do an article on Phoenixes. I've done enough research on them to consider myself a semi-expert.

2006-01-17 [Kiddalee]: YaY! I'm going to work on a Unicorn article once I manage to dig up the project I did on them a while back.

2006-01-17 [Kuzco]: Hey, I come across some curious scientific facts about, like, abilities of the metal, behaviours of nature's giants (vulcanos, tornados, etc) physics and chemestry stuff. Do those count?

2006-01-18 [Kiddalee]: As long as you can write an article about it, it counts. It doesn't have to be on the list. But for something like "Psychology" which is so broad, it's a good idea to split it into the types of psychology (like Jungian).

2006-02-07 [Kiddalee]: [grushaj], do you mind if I add you to the credits?

2006-02-07 [grushaj]: Sure, no prob. Working on about three or four more... they'll probably be here by this weekend at the latest.. but we'll see. :)

2006-02-07 [Kiddalee]: You must like it here, non?

2006-02-08 [grushaj]: Well of course... was always big on Elftown too.. but this place is more my style. And I'm a big research nerd.. so yah. :P

2006-02-08 [Kiddalee]: I am a bibliophile. I really do have a book fetish. No, not a particularly sexual one, but a fetish, nonetheless.

2006-02-10 [Nightshadow]: I'm working on one for painting and sculpture. :3

2006-02-11 [Kiddalee]: Sweet.

2006-04-02 [iippo]: I'm working on one about etiquette (I know, broad. I hope it'll be worthy :3)

2006-04-03 [Kiddalee]: Oy, YaY! Thankies!

2006-05-10 [Anninja]: Any needed on violin play? Could write a huge article on just how to hold the bow...

2006-05-10 [Mister Saint]: That would be fantastic, actually, if not too much trouble. A violin is second only to a piano (and a maybe second) as far as versatile instruments for characters, IMHO. It can bring out a villain or a goodie good beautifully. ^^

2006-05-10 [japegrin]: would you guys have anything on elves or history of the roman era?

2006-05-11 [Kiddalee]: Not yet, I guess, but maybe you could list it in TD - Articles On Demand and hopefully someone who knows about those subjects will see them.

2006-05-11 [Mister Saint]: History of the roman era is a pretty gigantic subject. I'm not sure that a TD article could do the full 800 years and some change justice...

2006-05-11 [Kiddalee]: Maybe it would have to be broken into sections when someone finally does it, but I don't think it would be bad to list it with that broad name and just request that it is broken into several articles.

2006-06-09 [Athilea]: I think I might be able to do an article on Dragons. I'll have to go through some of the things I have, but I'll be sure to give credit to the books I use if you want me to write the article. *looks sheepishly and blushes*

2006-06-13 [Kiddalee]: YaY!

2006-06-14 [Athilea]: So, can I do the article on Dragons?

2006-06-14 [Kiddalee]: You don't have to ask.

2006-06-15 [Athilea]: Okay, I just wanted to be sure you didn't have someone else doing it. I will get something up soon.

2006-06-15 [Kiddalee]: Okies.

2006-06-16 [Nightshadow]: [Athilea], if multiple people post on the same subject, then that's perfectly okay. They'll treat the subject differently. One may have a special interest in the history and development of dragon lore, another may like common forms and form theory, others may like wing dynamics, and still others may dwell on physical possibilities and impossibilities. Each essay will have different emphases, and the more people chime in, the better. ^_^

2006-06-16 [Kiddalee]: Though their titles shoult reflect these distinctions for organisational purposes.

2006-06-16 [Athilea]: *nods* K, I'll make sure to get something up.

2006-06-17 [Kiddalee]: Wootz!

2006-06-17 [Nightshadow]: Sometimes, Kiddalee. It can't always, as emphases aren't normally intentional. ;) Plenty of people try to hit every point, but no one hits all equally.

2006-06-17 [Kiddalee]: Good point.

2006-06-19 [Anninja]: See what I've written ^ยท^ TD - Violin

2006-06-19 [Kiddalee]: ***clickies* Edit: ***likes*

2006-07-15 [Calliope]: I know most people won't use it but it annoyed me when it was wrong in a book lol. It ended up kinda longer than I planned though....

2008-04-18 [RiddleRose]: hmm... i could probably do something on ballroom/partner dancing when i have slightly less work to do...

2008-04-27 [Kiddalee]: This may sound discouraging, but I'm not sure what to do with the TD project. Do you feel that it does anything that Wikipedia doesn't do better?

2008-05-20 [SilverFire]: Depends. Wikipedia can be wrong quite a lot. It's cool as a place to start research, to find out where you should be looking, but if you look for info on, say, the subject you're doing a degree in, then you'll notice a lot of mistakes.

2008-05-20 [Mister Saint]: I actually feel that this project is more useful for the writers of articles than readers. I know that when I did the swords article I found there was a lot I didn't know, and went into deeper research on the subject as a result. Forced study?

2008-06-02 [Kiddalee]: Good idea. Maybe a goal change is in order.

2008-06-02 [Kiddalee]: On second thought, maybe the current goal attracts more people even though forced study is a great benefit.
